Our 50th year in business was quite a success! Here, we wrap up some of our favorite highlights:

Top Milestones

Celebrating 50 years!deltec homes 50 years

This year was a huge year for Deltec: we celebrated our 50th anniversary! Since 1968, we’ve been committed to innovation, quality & the environment. To commemorate, we unveiled a new logo and had a party benefiting Habitat for Humanity at our model homes in Mars Hill back in October. Take a look at our history in our timeline, 50 Years of Innovation.

New Model Home

deltec home texasDeltec takes Texas! As an international company, we know it can be tough for some people to visit our two   model homes here in Western North Carolina. Therefore, we set a goal in late 2017 to build a new model home outside of Asheville—way outside of Asheville: Rockport, Texas. The hurricane resistant 1500 model from our 360° Collection features 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and 1496 square feet. The home is nearly complete & almost ready for tours! Drive by to see it for yourself: 1517 S. Magnolia Street, Rockport, TX 78382.

Deltec Homes Superlatives

Biggest Home

In January 2018, a 7118 square-foot home from our 360° Collection was completed in nearby Tennessee.  After relocating from Washington DC, Mark and Nancy knew exactly what they wanted deltec homes in tennesseeand what they didn’t in their new home.  Once they started searching, it was clear that an existing home wouldn’t fit the bill.  “Once we found land that offered panoramic views of the mountains of East TN, we knew a Deltec home was right for us.” They built a 2500 model with a 24′ x 44′ crescent wing on a finished basement. We featured the home on our blog earlier this year. Read more about it here.

One of the perks of our   360° Collection  is the variety of sizes you can build. A single structure can range anywhere from 328 – 2500 square feet. With multi-story, wing and connect options, that square footage can increase drastically. For this reason, you’ll often hear us refer to these as “building blocks“. In this case though, homeowner Nancy kept it simple with a single 328 square foot home right here in Asheville, NC. Built by Deltec Building Company, the tiny home features an open floor plan, which makes it feel much more spacious.

Furthest Away

We ship homes all over the world. As you may have seen in other posts, that includes places like Okinawa, Japan and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia! In 2018, a 1000 model connected to an 800 model and a 500 model (a “tri-connect”, if you will) made the 2084 mile hike to the country of Grenada.

Most Energy Efficient

deltec homes zero energyLocated here in Asheville, Deltec Building Company built its first certified Zero Energy Ready Home. According to the website,  DOE Zero Energy Ready Homes are verified by a qualified third-party and are at least 40%-50% more energy efficient than a typical new home.  This Ridgeline model features passive solar design, 18 solar panels, our Energy Wall and a projected HERS score of <10. Stay tuned for more about this home later this year!

As we begin 2017, we reflect on what a whirlwind year 2016 was. It has been a great year here at Deltec and we want to wrap it up by highlighting some of our favorite moments.

1. Becoming the First Certified B Corp Prefabricated Home Builderdeltec homes b corp

One of the biggest milestones of 2016 was in February when we achieved B Corp Certification, an honor given to companies who meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance. Since Deltec Homes started in 1968, we’ve been passionate about not only creating a better home, but a better environment & world around us. Staying true to those values, even when the housing market was at its worst, makes us even more proud of this accomplishment. Click here to learn more about how we did it!

2. New Model Home & Innovation Center Grand Opening

model-home-grand-openingWe opened our brand new Model Home and Innovation Center in April and the grand opening party was a huge success! The 1,500 square foot net-zero model home not only showcases what its like to be inside a Deltec home, but it also serves as a research center, making it the ultimate smart home.  Located at 275 Manor Road, Mars Hill, NC 28754 (right next door to our first model home), it is open to the public Wednesday – Friday 9am to 5pm, Saturday 10am to 4pm and Sunday – Tuesday by appointment only. Can’t make it to North Carolina? Take the virtual tour.

3. Best of Houzz Award

Deltec homes awardIn February, Deltec won “Best Of Customer Service” on Houzz®, the leading platform for home remodeling and design. This award is given based on several factors, including the number and quality of client reviews, making this even more special. “This is a huge honor,” said Steve Linton, president of Deltec Homes. “Customer service is extremely important to us. We believe building a home should be exciting, not stressful, so we focus on going above and beyond for our customers. This is the ultimate measure of our success and it’s so rewarding to see how genuinely satisfied our customers are.”

4. Deltec Buzz

media-pic2It’s been a big year for Deltec in both local and national media. From small mentions to featured articles, we’re extremely thankful for the reporters and bloggers who took notice. You may have come across us in Curbed (February and April), Inhabitat (March and June), DoItYourself.com, Fast Co., Asheville Citizen Times, Mountain Xpress, Tech Insider or Architect Magazine, or you may have seen us speak about green home design at the International Builders Show in January.

5. New Renew Collection Modelsdeltec homes net zero ridgeline

The success of our high performance & net-zero line of homes, the Renew Collection, has far exceeded our expectations. It’s given us the opportunity to design homes outside of our norm and offer an option for those who want the best home in the world in a style that fits their taste. We’ve made it a priority to continue adding to it so that our customers have even more options. In 2016, we designed three new models:

  • Ridgeline C & D – a larger version of our ever-popular Ridgeline was launched in February 2016

Okay, we’re cheating a little with the next two. While these models aren’t officially launching until mid-January 2017, they were designed in 2016. Think of this as a sneak peak, but be sure to stay tuned for more…

  • Ridgeline E & F – a smaller version of the Ridgeline, ranging from 1120 – 1232 square feet
  • Solar Farmhouse – a modern take on a classic design, featuring 2094 square feet

The first newsletter of every year features a “best of” the previous year.  As we look back, we realize 2015 was quite a year! We had some great highlights including a feature on the DIY Network show Breakneck Builds, construction of a new net-zero model home, a new planbook (which should be out in a few weeks), the new DIY and Tiny Homes Collection, a record number of seminar attendance and a brand new website. In addition to those accomplishments, we highlight our biggest, smallest and furthest homes we shipped, our home with the best view, our top 3 most shipped states and our most exciting moment:

Biggest

Deltec homes schoolThis year we had the honor to build the French Broad River Academy here in Asheville. In order to accommodate the size they needed, we used two Crescent Chalet models and stretched them out to equal about 8,985 square feet. One building has nine classrooms and office space. The second is a multipurpose building, used as a performance space and indoor PE classes. Given its close proximity to the French Broad river, the school was built on pilings, with the ground floor serving as garage and storage.

Smallest

The smallest structure we shipped in 2015 was a one-story, 300 square foot model here in North Carolina. These homeowners will be using it as a personal dance studio!

Best view

As seen from the header photo in the blog, this beautiful 1,600 model is located in Colorado – that view almost looks fake! It’s not we promise…

Top 3 most shipped states

The top three most shipped states are 1) North Carolina, 2) Michigan, 3) Florida

Furthest

The furthest home that we shipped this year was in Okinawa, Japan—7700 miles away! The home is a two-story 1500 model. Tom and his wife plan to deltec homes prefab roundlive on the second floor and rent out the first floor. One of the main reasons they chose a Deltec was because of the strength. For this region, typhoons are not uncommon and it’s a very active earthquake zone. In fact, Okinawa had five typhoons over the summer. Luckily they haven’t put their Deltec to the test just yet, but they feel fully prepared. “When that time comes, we’re confident that we will be safe and secure in our typhoon resistant Deltec,” Tom said.

Most Exciting Moment

New Model Home

This year we started construction on our second model home. True to our core values, the new 1500-sqft model will demonstrate sustainable and energy efficient building principles. The passive solar design, with south-facing windows and stained concrete floors to act as a thermal deltec model homemass, will help keep the home cool during the summer and warm during the winter. Using our Energy Wall and Energy Saver overhang, it will be super-insulated and air-tight, demonstrating the most cutting edge practices for energy efficient construction. In addition to these features, all of the electricity will come from renewable energy through an on-site solar array, enabling it to achieve Green Built North Carolina Net-Zero certification upon completion. We’ll continue to keep you updated on the progress & plans for a grand opening party in the spring of 2016.
